Frederick Brink Jensen Wins Unibet Open Copenhagen 2014

The Unibet Open returned to Copenhagen last week with a new buy in of €1000+100 and a new 30,000 chip starting stack which saw the event sell out well in advance of Day 1a.

406 players entered the 3 day main event but only one could walk away with the title of Champion and a winners cheque for just shy of €84,000.

That player, was Frederick Brink Jensen from Copenhagen, Denmark. Frederick was the final tables star player, with over $2m in live cashes, which include a 2nd place finish for over $1m in the Aussie Millions 2010 Main Event but more notably a win in the EPT Main Event in Madrid in 2012 for just under €500k. He showed his class throughout and in an amazing final hand that was as much of a see-saw hand that anyone could have possibly imagined he was crowned the Unibet Open Copenhagen 2014 Winner.

He held QJo vs the A7o of Emil Hegedus, the board ran out AQJ rainbow to give Frederick the bottom 2 pair, and Emil the top pair with his Ace. The money went in on the flop and the turn card shocked the rail, a 7!! The pendulum had swang back into Emil's favour and the crowd seemed shocked! However the Poker Gods in Denmark were on their chosen ones side and the Queen on the river filled Fredericks full house and ensured a cheer from an ecstatic rail. The event was a massive success and Unibet agin excelled in giving their poker players some amazing tournaments, fantastic parties and an event that will live long in the memory of every person involved. Congratulations to Frederick Brink Jensen and to Unibet, roll on Talinn!

Unibet Poker - New Software and My 1st Review.

Unibet Poker, home of the qualifiers to the awesome Unibet Open have recently re-invigorated their online poker room by leaving their old network behind and going it alone by creating their own software (a bold move) and so far I am impressed.

The poker room features everything you would normally see on a poker client, from cash games, fast poker, to SnG's and Multi Table Tournaments. But the feel of the site is different to what players are used to.

The site is more beginner friendly, in fact you can create multiple alias' in order to hide from the data miners and the pro's who frequent most of the online sites these days. This IMO is a fantastic idea and one that will help the amateur players feel more inclined to play here, which is great for the poker industry as a whole.

I've been playing some 2c/4c cash games after receiving a €10 voucher and so far I'm just breaking even, but the money at stake here is not what I'm interested in, its the fun I'm having at the tables, changing my alias, playing different styles and enjoying playing instead of grinding like a chump.

Why don't you take a look yourself and give it a go?

Bill Quay Poker League - Feb 2014

After badgering me for weeks and weeks to play in the local pub leagues again I decide to go along and try my luck at Bill Quay Cricket Club's monthly league event which is a £15 MTT Freezeout.

Seeing a lot of my old friends for the 1st time in ages was great, the beer is cheap and the banter is 2nd to none, anyone new in the game would be intimidated by some of the chat, but everyone there knows its mostly in jest and a whole load of fun.

I think there were 26 players this month and thankfully I finished 3rd for a win of £65, not bad for my 1st live game in what seems like an eternity.

I may have to try my arm at the Iona league game next week.

Stay tuned!

Guess who's back!

Morlspin's back!

Keep tuned as I get back into the poker scene, playing, reporting and commentating on the game I love.

I've been away for almost 3 years now after getting married, having kids and changing jobs but I have the bug again.

Hope you enjoy and see you soon!

1st Live Win of the Year

Friday gone I played the Monthly "NPower" private MTT at Aspers Casino in Newcastle, I went along with my good mate, Gary "Geordiegaz" Graham for a start at an early 5.45pm as the game must be finished by 8pm to allow room for the regular game that night, the buy in is a nice £15 with 4000 chips and 10 min blinds! yes, 10 mins! Gary also does a novelty book for this, and priced me at 50-1 to win....cheeky fcker!

22 players started the game and Gaz and I were the dealers amongst this pretty in-experienced crowd, I found myself doubled up pretty early on when my set of 7's beat 2 pairs and again later when my AA held up and i reached the final table as chipleader.

Pretty standard play ensured I made the final two after busting fellow PuntersLounge members Geordiegaz and ThePokerPad  along the way which gave me a 3-1 chip advantage over 2nd place.

Gary continued to deal after being knocked out and he dealt me 88 on the 1st hand which propelled me to a 6-1 chip advantage after an 8 on the flop helped me out big style! It was pretty much game over from that moment on and my final hand of A3 beating Q9 sealed the deal.

Thanks to the lads at NPower for the good humour and the welcome they give, much appreciated. See you next month!

Result as follows:

1st: Graeme Morl - £120

2nd: Craig Wood - £80

3rd: Tony Weedy - £60

4th: Chris Allan - £30

1st Online Wins of the New Year

Sky Poker Tour - Newcastle Leg 2

Sky Poker Tour – Newcastle Leg 2011
Graeme Morl

After weeks of online qualifying, the players of Sky Poker descended upon Aspers Casino in Newcastle for the 2nd leg of this year’s Sky Poker Tour.
171 runners took part in another well ran event, including some notable names such as Carlo Citrone, Tony “Tikay” Kendall, Keith “The Camel” Hawkins and SNG pro Ray “Montadoo” Norton, who is currently ranked 3rd in the UK, who head up a strong field.
After being drawn to the left of Tikay, we have some banter and then he moves all in on me in the 1st hand on the big blind after a raise and 2 calls, one being mine. I look down at pocket 9’s and reluctantly let them go for Tikay to show the obligatory Ace, I’m sure he had a 2 to go with it, but the old man assures me he had a 2nd ace, so ill let him go this time! “Plenty of time left” I say to myself
Just 3 hands later, I look down at QQ and raise the pot to 200, two folds and then a raise, to 300…..has he seen my raise? Is he messing with me? What’s up with that I think to myself, the dealer makes him put in a min raise to 350 and the rest of the table folds, what do I do here, Tikay’s looking at me as if I’m daft, the raiser looks bewildered so I re-raise again to 1200. Expecting the fold, he turns away and announces all-in…..omg I’m lost, does he have the AA, does he have nothing but wants me to fold? You only start with 5000 chips, I can’t keep folding these hands, so decide to call…..yep, he had the rockets. An ace on the turn and its game over, good night, 4 hands, thanks for coming Morls, now I’m on valet duty for the lads. Sigh!
As ever in Sky Poker events, there was the presence of Team Sky Poker, their in house team of professionals and it was one of their own who emerged victorious after 13 hours of gruelling play, for me however, it was a tale of what could have been.
Wayne “GlitterBabe” Rideout, who has excelled through the ranks on Sky Poker and was a fans favourite in their “Total Player” competition, steered his way through the field to emerge as the new 2011 Sky Poker Tour Newcastle Leg Champion.
The heads up battle saw Wayne take on Jamie Louise Barrett, another Sky regular who it seems has a massive following and the rail was loud and lively, testament to the camaraderie between Sky Poker players. The final hand was a brutal end to the event, with both players seeing a cheap flop of 8-5-9 rainbow. Wayne shoves all in and is called by Jamie Lou and we have a showdown, Wayne shows J7o for a double gut shot and Jamie Lou shows 97 for top pair and a gut shot straight draw. The turn brings a 4 which also gives Jamie Lou the flush draw; however a brutal Jack on the river secures Wayne’s victory and a payday worth over £4000.
Many thanks to Sky Poker for their excellent hospitality yet again and Aspers Casino, in particular Tournament Director Gary Ramsey, who ran the event under a lot of pressure and with a stinking cold to boot, Well done all. See you in Luton!

Brendan Hartnett R.I.P

For any of the APAT'ers amongst us who may not have heard the sad news, Brendan Harnett has passed away this week.

Ive copied a post from the APAT forum: It's with a sad heart that I write this to tell everyone that Brendan passed away yesterday. He became ill on Sunday, was admitted to Hospital, but died suddenly.

A true gentleman, always played with a smile on his face - win or lose.He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him, and no one else embodied the APAT spirit as well as Brendan.

RIP Brendan

Pokerplayer Championships Brighton Event

I was up to 38k when i made the final table with blinds of 3k/6k

My demise came after a guy had pushed all in on my BB when i had A9 and i decided to fold, only for him to the exact same thing on my SB when i had KJ....i called this time after putting him on a much bigger range of hands than anything that premium! His QQ held up but luckilly i had him covered and im down to 2k

I wait for a full round til my BB and decide to go blind and only look once they other guys had acted and shown on the river...2 callers and im up against A8 and 34 who had hit the 3.....i get a come on, turn them over by the TD and everyone stands around to see if im in or out......1st card turned over an Ace.....a few oohs and arghhhs and then i whip over the 2nd one.....an Ace!!!! Cheers, photos and laughter later I get up to 6K and can now fold the SB lol

It all folds round to me in the SB and i go blind again for the bb to get a free shot at me....he turns over K9o and i think i have to be behind so i turn em over and i have KJ again lol....im now up to 12k and laughing my arse off with loads of the rail having a ball!

3 hands later it gets folded round to me and i look down and see AJ spades and decide to push, SB fold and BB makes up the extra 4k and turns over 69o.... 6 on the flop and im gone, but won £180 and had a laugh all the same

Scottish Championships Result

Had one of the best poker experiences of my life this weekend and never once felt out of my depth, I played well and was only once behind when i made a call, which cost me a few chips after the cock called with A6 lol

Had Charalambos Xanthos http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=247 of late night poker fame on my table for 1st 3 hrs and took him out when he tried to make a play on me twice. 1st time i held 44 and on a flop of 246 i bet out, he insta pushed and i called, he had 55 and missed and he doubled me up.....3 hands later i get AKclubs and i pump it up the table raise of 4x the bb....he re-raises me and i call for an extra 4xbb...flop brings J7J and i know if i check he pushes and i cant call.....so i bet 10k into a 10k pot and he pushes for 16k total.....i have to call and he turns over Q10.......i look at him and he has the cheek to say....how did u call? lol

Before the A6 incident which cost me 24k i was sitting nicely on 55k with 2 hrs of play remaining and if my QQ had held up id have been massive chip leader with everything to play for, but, i made my target of reaching day 2 comfortably and I was playing well so I have no arguments!

Gaz explained the final hand which was a gutter.....Blinds 600/1200 ante 100Me UTG+2 on 25kHim UTG+3 on 62kI raise to 4100 with KQ and he calls, table foldsFlop was 382 and i check (any bet here he probably calls or re-raises and i lose half my stack was my reasoning), he also checksTurn was 10 and again i decide to check for same reasonsRiver brought the King which i was happy with as there was now 10700 in the pot so i make it 6k to play he anounces all in and im thinking that if he had AA , AK , KK he would have re-raised me preflop to protect his hand and thus I make the call.....he has AK clubs and im gone in 14th.

5 short of the money
73 runners with 9 getting paid from 1500 up to 28500 for winner

PL Scottish Championships win!

This was the tourney that I had my number 1 game in play for, im getting good starting hands, hitting the flop and my hands are holding up, its a great feeling when you know your doing well and with a £1300 package up for grabs for the winner, I had to win!

The final hand was a crazy call by me, but i felt that Brian(mcfc/wasp) would be prepared to make moves early and try to dominate the heads up, that if i kept folding raggy aces heads up, he'd destroy me.

He pushes at quite low blind levels so i decide to call as i have chips behind me (15k in play, i have 9k) I have A4 suited and im thinking......whats he got......he turns over A2offsuit.....so i turn away and expect the chop chop to happen.....well i spike a 4 on the turn to take down the victory and im chuffed!!

Im now going to Edinburgh on 30th August to play my biggest buy in yet....the £1060 Scottish Championships held at the Gala Maybury in Edinburgh.....wish me luck!
